Vocational Education

The EUF aims at bringing together experts, teachers, instructors and interested tilers from all countries to learn from each other and to jointly improve the quality of training for tilers.

In many European countries, training as a tiler has been organised in tried and tested training regulations for years.

However, the systems differ massively in some cases. Both in the length of time and in the structure and implementation of the training.

We basically distinguish between two types of training:

  • There is the "dual system" in which the apprentice works as an apprentice in a tiling company for a certain period of time (2 - 4 years) (and can also earn a modest wage) and regularly attends school lessons (general education and technical training) as well as taking part in inter-company practical courses for a certain time each year. At the end of the training, a final apprenticeship examination takes place.
  • The other type is a purely school-based training financed by the state (i.e. without an apprenticeship with an employer) over a certain period of time (2-4 years). Often all professions of the main and secondary construction trades are trained in these schools. After the school-based training and a school examination, the learners complete a few months / years of various practices with companies before they can then enter the regular work process.

The EUF has formed a working group for the vocational education. More information about it can be found here.
