The EUF Technical Commission visits FECAMO

The Belgian tilers' association FECAMO – Federation of Tilers and Mosaicists – hosted the meeting of the EUF Technical Commission on 12 and 13 November. Gino Vanderhaverbeke, President of FECAMO, and Paolo Colombo, Chairman of the EUF Technical Commission, welcomed eight representatives of national tiling associations to Brussels, two of whom joined via video conference.

In the spotlight: the exchange of technical topics between countries

The individual presentations covered topics such as laying tiles and large-format slabs on façades (CZE), restoring the bond of detached tiles using injection methods (BEL), new regulations within the framework of a standard for the planning and laying of tiles on stairs (ITA), a guideline on exterior coverings (AUT), the topics of slip resistance and sealing (CHE), as well as concrete substrates and the laying of non-ceramic tiles and slabs (DEU) and drying times for screeds and trade interfaces (IRL).

An overview of the technical regulations of the individual EUF member countries will be made available to all associations 24/7 via a knowledge platform. This will allow suitable regulations for country-specific requirements to be filtered out more quickly and specifically. In this way, the EUF effectively contributes to the technical support of its members. Additional work and duplicate regulations can thus be avoided by using proven regulations.

Foresight in education and qualifications

The EUF country representatives wanted the Danish contribution to this topic to be explored in greater depth in a separate workshop. Recruiting young talent and improving the image of the profession is a key issue for all EUF member associations. Attractive training and qualifications are essential for this, despite the differences in the education systems in the respective countries.

The next meetings of the EUF Technical Commission will take place in Italy in spring 2026 and in Czechia in autumn 2026.
